Gayle has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).   PKD is a genetic progressive kidney disease, characterized by enlarged kidneys containing many cysts. This leads to kidney failure. At this time there is no cure.  For the last year we have been traveling from one transplant center to another in our quest for information.  We learned about "organ procurement zones" and became "double listed".  It looked rather bleak in the beginning as it appeared that  Gayle's blood type was going to require more than a few years on the transplant list. Possibly many years of dialysis.  However, out of the blue, a pint-sized miracle stepped forward and announced that she had entered the donor program at Cal Pacific Medical Center and had turned out to be a match!  Margie's incrediable offer changed the situtation entirely for us. Now, after an exaustive battery of tests for both women, Cal Pacific has accepted them as a donor and recipient and a date has been made.   On April 17th, 2009 , Gayle and Margie will go into surgury and come out connected in a way few people ever experience.   I am Gayle's husband and am blessed to have shared her life for the last 27 plus years. This blog is for friends and relatives to go to and update themselves on what is happening before, during and after the transplant. Please feel free to post or add to the site. I join with Gayle in wishing you all peace in your life. Loren.
